Scroll pumps are an excellent alternative to rotary vane pumps where oil free pumping is desirable. The XDS pumps use an innovative bearing shield to isolate the vacuum environment from all forms of lubricant not only making them totally dry, but also protecting the bearing from any process gases. Vapour handling is enabled by an adjustable gas ballast; this allows the range of pumps to satisfy many applications that were previously off limits to other scroll pumps. The Enhanced versions combining the XDS scroll form technology and by pass valve design, extend the operating envelope of these pumps.

XDS scroll pumps are a type of vacuum pump that operates using a spiral rotor design. They are designed for applications requiring a medium vacuum, such as in research, the semiconductor industry, medical equipment, analytical instruments, and applications in combination with high-vacuum pumps.

The XDS scroll pump operates based on two interlocking spiral scroll rotors. One rotor is fixed, while the other rotates eccentrically around the fixed rotor. The rotation of the eccentric rotor creates a spiral movement in the cavity between the two rotors, which draws in gas or air. As the rotors rotate, the gas or air is pushed towards the outer edge of the pump and is expelled through the exhaust port.
